Lingering worries over China’s economy sent Asian shares tumbling early Wednesday, while overnight losses on Wall Street further ignited flight-to-safety sentiment across the region.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng fell 1.47 percent or 327.37 points at 21,942.24. China’s Shanghai Composite was down 0.23 percent or 4.58 points at 1,996.57.
Japan’s Nikkei tumbled 2.13 percent or 324.47 points at 14,899.64. Singapore’s Straits Times declined 0.77 percent or 23.99 points at 3,105.41.
South Korea’s Seoul Composite slipped 1.14 percent or 22.34 points at 1,941.53. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted shed 0.51 percent or 44.05 points at 8,658.28.
