Asian Markets Update by Epic Research

The gains on US stocks overnight helped to boost sentiment in Asia. The Dow rose back above 17,000 on Monday after Citigroup posted a stronger-than-expected quarterly profit.



Hong Kong’s Hang Seng added 0.58 percent or 134.81 points at 23,481.48. Japan’s Nikkei rose 0.85 percent or 129.88 points at 15,426.70.



South Korea’s Seoul Composite jumped 0.84 percent or 16.82 points at 2,010.70. Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted added 0.71 percent or 67.39 points at 9,587.69.



Singapore’s Straits Times was flat at 3,291.80. China’s Shanghai Composite was up 0.08 percent or 1.59 points at 2,068.24.
