Asian markets were mixed; Shanghai lost 0.8 percent and Nikkei fell 2 percent while Hang Seng, Striats Times and Kospi were flat to positive.
Europe
Stocks closed lower, with investor confidence curbed by a mixed bag of earnings from major companies and concerns about slowing growth in China.
Currency
The euro rose to 1.32 to the dollar. The dollar index slipped to sub 82 levels ahead of next week’s Federal Reserve policy meeting. Meanwhile the yen strengthened versus the dollar.
