Asian equity markets were mixed on the first trading day of the year while liquidity levels were low due to the holiday period.
China’s Shanghai Composite was down 0.34 percent or 7.13 points at 2,108.85.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was flat at 23,317.43. Singapore’s Straits Times rose 0.32 percent or 10.25 points at 3,177.68.
South Korea’s Seoul Composite fell 0.32 percent or 6.38 points at 2,004.96.
Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted was up 0.21 percent or 17.86 points at 8,629.37. Japan’s Nikkei shut today.
