Asian stocks rose on Thursday after minutes from the latest Federal Reserve meeting eased fears of an imminent interest rate hike but trade may be cautious ahead of key Chinese economic data.
Focus in Asia is on China’s March trade data, due at 10am SIN/HK. Consensus calls are centered on an annual 4.8 percent gain for exports, which would be a dramatic rebound from February’s 18 percent plunge.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was flat at 22,853.85 while Japan’s Nikkei jumped 1.11 percent or 159.41 points at 14,459.10.
South Korea’s Seoul Composite rose 0.27 percent or 5.49 points at 2,004.44 and Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted was up 0.12 percent or 10.81 points at 8,941.38.
However, Singapore’s Straits Times declined 0.56 percent or 18.12 points at 3,191.80. China’s Shanghai Composite shed 0.21 percent or 4.46 points at 2,100.77.
