Rural Electric Coops Are Big Polluters

With the EPA breathing fire down the necks of electric utilities this week, the biggest utilities are already transitioning away from coal-fired power plants. But the biggest polluters are actually the rural electric cooperatives which rely on old-tech coal to generate power, according to 5 Dense Carbon Polluters In EPA Crosshairs .

Rural electric coops, though, should soon transition to solar with storage as their members install solar panels and feed their excess energy into the Internet of Energy. Those current consumers of dirty coal energy will become prosumers, producing more electricity than they consume. This will eliminate coal-fired power plants, reduce pollution and lead us into the next Industrial Revolution.

Jeremy Rifkin details it all in The Zero Marginal Cost Society: The Internet of Things, the Collaborative Commons, and the Eclipse of Capitalism. We highly recommend this book to anyone who needs to make decisions about the future. Knowing how we got here, where we are in the progression and where we're going is essential for anyone planning on living through, and prospering from, the transition from capitalism to the Collaborative Commons.
