Epic Research Update : Asian Markets

Asian stock markets were mixed amid choppy trade on Wednesday as the keenly-awaited reading on China’s economy showed first-quarter growth at its slowest pace since the global financial crisis.

China’s Shanghai Composite index wavered between gains and losses after the data release and was last seen notching up 0.3 percent.

In Hong Kong where a blistering rally happened after markets reopened post-Easter, the key Hang Seng index ticked up 0.3 percent to hover near Monday’s 7-year closing high of 28,016 points.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 index pared losses an hour into trade as the yen weakened to trade at 119.65 against the US dollar.

South Korean shares extended gains after pushing through the landmark 2,100-point level for the first time in nearly four years on Tuesday. The benchmark Kospi index was on course to chalk up a four-day winning streak.
