Japanese shares traded higher, with the Nikkei 225 index up 0.65 percent and the Topix advancing 0.57 percent. Across the Korean Strait, the Kospi fell 0.29 percent.
Markets in mainland China and Hong Kong, which were set to open at 9:30 a.m. HK/SIN, may receive a boost after China’s State Council said the government had approved plans for the launch of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect.
