Equity benchmarks extended gains in afternoon, with the Sensex rising more than 200 points on strong market breadth.
Banking & financials stocks and Infosys were driving the market higher while FMCG stocks were mildly under pressure.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 210.69 points or 0.67 percent at 31,502.54 and the 50-share NSE Nifty gained 58.60 points or 0.60 percent at 9,824.15.
The BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices continued to outperform benchmarks, up more than 1.1 percent. About 1,521 shares advanced against 900 declining shares on the BSE.
All sectoral indices barring FMCG traded in green. Realty gained the most, up 3 percent followed by Bank (up 1.3 percent).
