Benchmark indices extended gains in afternoon, led by index heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC Group stocks. But geopolitical tensions between North Korea and US are closely watched by investors.
The 30-share BSE Sensex was up 121.25 points at 31,823.50 and the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 38.75 points to 9,951.60 on positive market breadth.
About 1,574 shares advanced against 823 declining shares on the BSE.
Reliance Industries was the leading contributor to Nifty’s gains, up 1 percent followed by IOC, HDFC and HDFC Bank.
