Sensex ends at 36140, Nifty above 11,000 led by metal, PSU bank stocks

The Nifty on Tuesday settled 11-K mark, while the Sensex breached the 36-K level for the first time after an IMF report indicted India was set to regain the title as the world's fastest growing major economy in 2018-2019. 

The BSE Sensex closed higher by 341.97 points to 36,139.98, while the NSE Nifty-50 rose 117.50 points to close at 11,083.70. Both Sensex and Nifty posted record closing peaks for the fifth consecutive session as stellar earnings results boosted investor’s mood.

In Sensex pack, shares of SBI, Tata Steel, ONGC and ICICI Bank were major gainers, while Wipro, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank and Asian Paints were losers. 

Shares of ONGC continued to trade on a strong footing in today's trade and finished up by 3.7 percent after the company got approval from the govt for selling its stake in IOC & GAIL. 

On NSE constituents, Vedanta gains 5.21%, GAIL India up 4.5%, SBI up 3.93%, Hindalco rose 3.8% and Tata Steel edged up 3.73%, while Eicher Motors down 2.26%, Ambuja Cement down 2.18%, ZEEL slips 1.93%, Wipro falls 1.6% and Infratel edged lower by 1.37%
