Epic Update : Sensex fails to close above 20000

The 30-share BSE Sensex surged as much as 255 points in intraday trade, but the gains could not last long. At close, the index rose just 88.51 points to 19983.61 while the Nifty was up 22.25 points to 5928.40 amid volatility.
